ON-GOING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Many of the experiences I mention have led me to understand the process of teaching and learning in a school setting. I am a proud teacher of STEM-based education (study fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics). This has made me a more effective teacher. After all, we are all students in some shape or form. In all fairness, students can recognize when a teacher is not practicing what they preach; ‘you are teaching us to grow and develop, why are you not expected to do the same?’ Setting goals and aspirations can help a teacher grow. This can be done by: attending computer technology courses to help present lectures more effectively, examine pedagogical student assessments and implement effective teaching techniques that have proven to enhance learning, attending conferences/seminars where pedagogical topics are discussed and/or making observational visits to other schools.
